By integrating AI technology with the popular Facebook Messenger application and other social features, Portal's Smart Camera and Smart Sound technology creates a seamless and natural "in-the-room" eperience that allows families and friends to engage and stay connected in a more human way.

Partnering with Spotify (News - Alert) Premium, Pandora, and iHeartRadio, as well as Facebook Watch, Food Network and Newsy (News - Alert), Portal also enables shared activities like listening to music together or watching some of your favorite shows.

Eric Bauswell, Founder and CEO of Surfaceink, says, "The Facebook Portal and Portal+ will elevate the audio and visual communication experience in a way that is not currently available in the marketplace. The result reduces friction and awkwardness for users, providing a more personal and warmer experience."

Surfaceink was involved in many facets of the project, from early mechanical architecture and detailed design, to manufacturing guidance in-region, to right-sizing the audio solution and tuning it to help produce a best-in-class performance.

Jason Burton, Vice President of Product Development for Surfaceink, added, "Working as a core partner with the Facebook team, we were able to help them accelerate their ability to develop and deliver the two products to market within 2 years. Our integrated teams spent a great amount of effort to ensure that the users' experience would be transformational from the normal glitches and frustrations that exist with current video conferencing."

Surfaceink provides full-system product design and development services to Fortune 500 companies and startups in the Consumer Electronics market segment; from initial product strategy and design to detailed hardware and software engineering to production ramp. Clients include global market leaders such as Amazon, Apple, Broadcom, Cisco, Dell, Dolby, Fitbit, Google, HP, Intel, Microsoft, Motorola, Netgear, Nikon, NVIDIA (News - Alert), Oculus, Pepsi, Plantronics, Qualcomm, Tesla, plus numerous high-potential startups.
