Cloud Native Computing Foundation Welcomes Hortonworks as Gold MemberSAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cloud Native Computing Foundation® (CNCF®), which sustains and integrates open source technologies like Kubernetes® and Prometheus™, today announced that Hortonworks® has joined the Foundation as a Gold Member. Hortonworks delivers open source global data management platforms and services for customers' use in managing the full lifecycle of data, whether it lives on-premises, in the cloud or out at the edge. The company has long held a focus on driving innovation in open source communities such as Apache Hadoop, Apache NiFi and Apache Spark, and serves as a founding member of ODPi and leading contributor to the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). "Hortonworks was founded on the principle that the best way to deliver next-generation data management solutions is through open source and that when done under the governance of organizations like CNCF, open technologies help drive innovation far faster than any single vendor could achieve," said Scott Gnau, chief technology officer of Hortonworks. "By joining CNCF, we look forward to supporting the growth of cloud native solutions for big data management at a pivotal time in the industry." Ovum predicts that by next year, half of all new big data workloads will be deployed in the cloud. To address this growth and need for reliable, cross-vendor innovation, Hortonworks announced a new collaborative effort with IBM and Red Hat to transform Hadoop into a cloud native platform and to accelerate containerized big data workloads. Similarly, the company also announced its expanded partnership with Google Clud to accelerate big data analytics in the cloud, similar to the partnerships it has in place with AWS and Azure. "Hortonworks has not only been a leader in open source development for big data but is also helping to bridge the gap between big data solutions and the cloud in ways that benefit the community as a whole," said Dan Kohn, executive director of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. "We're thrilled to have Hortonworks join CNCF and continue its efforts to spearhead cross-industry collaboration and bring cloud native innovation into big data." As a CNCF member, Hortonworks plans to collaborate with the community on current and future cloud native technologies that will help drive the open source big data industry forward. Hortonworks will be one of many CNCF members attending the inaugural KubeCon + CloudNativeCon China, from November 13-15 in Shanghai, and the annual North American KubeCon + CloudNativeCon event, from December 10-13 in Seattle.
