Deputy Announces Expansion as Fair Workweek Regulations Grow

Deputy, an award-winning workforce management software platform, today announced significant customer momentum in New York, Oregon, and Seattle. After working with both customers and regulatory officials, Deputy's seven-figure product development investment to respond to the complex Fair Work Week regulations has resulted in over 100 new customers in New York alone.

"Deputy decided to double down on solving this problem after (now) customers called us and said their current workforce management provider told them they should use pen/paper to be compliant," said Deputy's Vice President of Enterprise Solutions, Derek Jones.

"The NYC Fair Workweek regulations are the most complex that we've seen and the standard that other jurisdictions are following -- including Oregon, Seattle, and the proposed Chicago Fair Work Ordinance."

"The fact that a business would be asked to comply with pen/paper indicates how big the gap was -- electronic record keeping is a requirement of the law and shows how much misinformation is out there," Jones followed up.

Predictable Scheduling laws are expected to increase at the state and local level with predictive scheduling legislation proposed in Washington D.C., Illinois and Pennsylvania.

Implemented in November 2017, New York City's Fair Workweek laws impose strict regulations that prevent scheduling changes within 2-weeks of the start of the shift, require shift trading/swapping directly between employees, mandate at least 11 hous between shifts, and ban on-call schedules.

Despite the complexity of these laws and similar ones implemented in San Francisco, Seattle and the state of Oregon, business owners were able to turn to Deputy to simplify the process of scheduling and automate compliance.

"We knew we needed a way to easily communicate with our staff, set schedules and tackle training requirements," said David Zelinger, co-owner of Snack Shack at One Pacific in Long Beach, New York. "We were worried that there wouldn't be a solution that we could manage easily or afford but Deputy does everything we need and more. It allows us the time necessary to focus growing our business and their amazing 24/7 support was integral to our seamless grand opening."

Deputy was created in Sydney, Australia for their own business in the complex Labour Award System, which determines the pay rates across 600 industries by multiple variables. The Deputy product was built with the technical architecture to make rapid changes to the product without lengthy development cycles. When applied to the U.S. regulatory market, Deputy's flexibility and speed to cater for complex regulations are helping businesses solve for Federal, State, and hyper-local regulations including overtime, time-clock accuracy, predictive scheduling, meal and rest breaks, tip pooling, and other compliance/HR issues.
