Dr. David Woo, Leading Global Economist, to Speak at New England College of Business Commencement


Dr. David Woo, one of the world's leading economists and financial experts, will address graduates of New England College of Business (NECB) on June 9. This year's commencement marks NECB's 109th year educating business professionals and will underscore the contributions NECB graduates make in business, society, and commitment to the common good.

NECB will also present its Distinguished Honors Award for community service to Diane Hessan, Boston-based entrepreneur, author, and founder of C Space.

Dr. Woo is the Head of Global Interest Rates, Foreign Exchange, Emerging Market Fixed Income & Economics Research at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he researches world financial markets. Considered one of the leading economists today, he is a regular guest on CNBC and Bloomberg (News - Alert) TV and is frequently quoted by The Economist and Financial Times. Dr. Woo was voted as one of the twelve smartest people on Wall Street in 2013 by Business Insider.



Previously, Dr. Woo was Head of Global Foreign Exchange Strategy at Barclays Capital Inc. for six years; and Head of Global Technical Strategy for the past two years. Before that, he spent four years at Citigroup, Inc. as Head of Local Markets Strategy for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Dr. Woo began his career as an Economist at the International Monetary Fund. He holds a BA in Mathematics from Tufts University and a Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University.

Hessan is considered an innovator in technology, education, and business leadership circles. After founding C Space, she served as its President and CEO for 14 years. She currently serves as Chairman and additionally contributes to numerous corporate and charitable Boards of Directors.


Hessan earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics from Tufts University. Hessan is co-author of the book Customer-Centered Growth: Five Strategies for Building Competitive Advantage. The book is a Business Week best-seller and has been published in 11 languages.

Hessan has received many honors, including the Most Admired CEO award; the Boston Power 50 award from the Boston Business Journal; Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year; the Northstar Award from Springboard; the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Pinnacle Award and the Entrepreneur of the Year award, and a range of Best Boss citations.
