The California celebration of National School Choice Week will begin at 5:00 PM and feature speaker presentations, family dinner, museum tour, scavenger hunt and entertainment. Toni Valliere, KCRA-TV news anchor and parent of two school-aged children, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Other VIP speakers and presentations include:

"Public education remains a great option for many California children - and having choice allows parents to make the best decision for their child to thrive," said Mike MeCey, managing partner of CharterSmart. "That's why we are excited to host this year's kick-off event to support parent choice and showcase students from all walks of life, with diverse needs, challenges and interests, and with unique and promising goals and aspirations."

Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. Through more than 32,000 independently planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises public awareness of all types of educational choices available to children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.

The lead organizer of the event is CharterSmart. Members of the media can register in advance by contacting Mike MeCey at the email address listed above.
