Corning Promotes a Talent Development Culture with SumTotalSumTotal Systems, a Skillsoft group company and the leading provider of talent management solutions, today announced that Corning is transforming its talent development processes by partnering with SumTotal to implement innovative learning programs that are globally inclusive, scalable and ready to meet the needs of the organization's modern workers. As a world leader in manufacturing with 50,000 users globally dispersed, Corning (News - Alert) must adhere to data privacy requirements of multiple countries. Using SumTotal, employees can meet the necessary criteria by choosing from thousands of learning activities across a variety of delivery methods. In addition, the use of the technology has been further expanded to include all functional business units including human resources, product development and IT as part of its digital transformation project. "We have employees that span the generations, from Millennials through Baby Boomers and with SumTotal, we are able to employ talent development and learning best practices that fit with Corning's unique needs and culture," said Amy Friend, Manager of Learning Technologies Work Development and Learning at Corning. "Using SumTotal has helped us advance a talent development culture that allows us to innovate with best practices, while also keeping us competitive globally for the best talent." To improve the experience for salaried and hourly employees across the organization, Corning surveyed regional leaders, managers, training administrators and learners and held usability labs to take advantage of the SumTotal Learn configurability. Additionally, Corning leveraged the Skillsoft Content relationship to increase learning opportunity awareness by promoting learning initiatives through multiple communication channels. As a result, Corning created the Corning Learning Central, a portal that provide click to learn capabilities for a given activity. This helped Corning avoid 600 hours of deployment time for user training and change management for administrators and end-users. They are also experiencing higher than average participation and completion rates and reduced need from their support team - from 1.3% to less than .5%. "Like many of our clients, Corning requires a unique Learning and Talent development solution that spans their multi-generational workforce - SumTotal delivers for that unique culture," said Bill Donoghue, chairman and CEO of the Skillsoft group. "Our technology and approach to innovation drives best practice, consumer-led, intuitive user experiences, and the global competitive edge our clients and their employees desire." As a result of the success internally, Corning is now looking to expand to support external users such as customers and channel partners. Additional resources
