With an aim to pit the finest computer programming brains from across the globe against each other, the competition is open to eeryone, with virtually no formal eligibility criteria. Since its humble inception in 2009, the contest has grown by leaps and bounds. Today, SnackDown is being considered to be one of the most coveted onsite competitive programming titles across the globe.

This year's edition opened to rave responses with over 21 thousand teams comprising 29K+ programmers from 18,233 universities, 993 schools, and 1,635 organizations from over 115 countries participating in different rounds of the contest. The event turned out to be the largest ever ensemble of the top computer programmers from across the world, in India, under one roof.

Commenting on the overwhelming response, SnackDown 2017 received, the chief guest, Mr. Adrian Kosowski, Co-Founder of Sphere Online Judge (SPOJ)  said, "I really enjoyed the contest. I am thrilled to participate in the parallel public contest and had a chance to look at the problems closer. I am so excited to see so many great teams from different countries competing. I'd like to congratulate all the winners this year." Incidentally, Mr. Kosowski also participated in a parallel round that was conducted for the community to have a crack at the same problem set as the finalists.

"What started off as a small experiment has culminated in a grand programming extravaganza. We are elated to have the best minds from across the globe under the same roof. It is a huge moment for us as well as the entire programming community to see the best programmers coming together to form a team to fight each other out in a gruelling five-hour contest. Behind all this, what makes us doubly happy is that the competition saw great participation from many high school students fighting it out with the top programmers from the best universities and the top corporates together. Hopefully, we will be able to spark a trend of emphasising on the need for computational thinking skills and informatics in India in the coming times - something that we are passionate about and working towards very hard," said Anup Kalbalia, BU Head, CodeChef.

Bhavin Turakhia, CEO and Co-Founder of Directi, while addressing the participants said, "I am so happy and excited to see all of you here. It is really humbling to be in the presence of all of you. CodeChef was born out of passion. In some ways coding is the biggest democracy, the ultimate truth. There is no politics in coding, you can't lie there. Programming is one of the few careers where an individual can make an impact to a larger group. It is one of the skills that helps an individual to make an impact to the community in a positive way and see the impact happening."
