Technavio analysts highlight the following three factors that are contributing to the growth of the global audio drive IC market:

  • High energy efficiency of ICs
  • Penetration of the telecommunication market
  • High adoption of consumer electronics

High energy efficiency of ICs

"A class D audio driver is the most efficient switching or pulse width modulation driver, which focuses solely on the modulating application note. These drivers can achieve efficiencies of 90%-95%, which is resulting in its high adoption among end-users," says Chetan Mohan, a lead analyst at Technavio for semiconductor equipment research.

The audio signal is used to modulate a pulse width modulation carrier signal, which drives output devices and the low pass filter removes the high-frequency pulse width modulation carrier. The high efficiency helps to reduce the power and electrical load on the alternator and allows various functions or speaker channels within standardized dimensions.

Penetration of the telecommunication market

Manufacturers of mobile products such as smartphones, multimedia mobile handsets, and earphones are witnessing a demand for versatile, high-quality audio services. Consumers expect high-output speakerphone options with simultaneous speakerphone/headphone operation to enjoy a wide range of music and entertainment-oriented services.

Manufacturers are increasingly adopting class D audio driver ICs to provide a high-quality music experience without taking up much of the battery. The high adoption of the Class D drivers in the telecommunication industry is expected to fuel the market growth.

High adoption of consumer electronics

"The rise in disposable income and technological advances is fueling the rapid growth of the consumer electronics sector. Audio driver ICs are extensively used in consumer electronics devices such as TVs, home theater systems, and high-power speakers, which is boosting the growth of the global market," says Chetan.

The audio driver ICs are highly efficient, causes negligible loss of energy, and have low heat dissipation features, which are resulting in its increased adoption in the consumer electronics segment. Also, the rise in demand for ultra-HD TVs, rising Internet penetration, and growing popularity of video on demand will further boost the growth of the market.
