UPMC Center for Health Security Announces 2015 Emerging Leaders in BiosecurityBALTIMORE, March 4, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The UPMC Center for Health Security today announced the selection of its 2015 Fellows in the Emerging Leaders in Biosecurity Initiative (ELBI). As part of our commitment to fostering future leaders in the field of biosecurity, UPMC has selected 28 US and international emerging leaders in biosecurity from a wide array of backgrounds, including biological science, medicine, policy, the military, think tanks and the private sector. "With the vision and support of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency in the Department of Defense, our Center started this fellowship program in 2012. We have been impressed with the high caliber of candidates every year. The fellows in this year's class are equally smart, committed, and enthusiastic about the diverse field of biosecurity. We're excited to engage with them this year." As part of the ELBI program, the 2015 class will engage with influential figures in the field of biosecurity through a series of meetings and candid discussions on issues that are critical to the future of work in this area. The program lasts throughout the year and will begin with a workshop in March. "The success of this program is due to the many opportunities that early career fellows have to form lasting connections with each other and to interact in substantive ways with current leaders in biosecurity, both in and outside of government. The ELBI program is building a connected network of peoplewho want to make a positive difference in the future of biosecurity."
