BRIEF: Former Shelby schools payroll manager accused of taking $590,000 [Lexington Herald-Leader :: ]

(Lexington Herald-Leader (KY) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 26--The former payroll manager for Shelby County Public Schools has been indicted for allegedly taking more than $590,000 from the district.

Benita Anglin of Frankfort was arrested Friday after being indicted Wednesday by a Shelby County grand jury on eight counts of theft by unlawful taking over $10,000, eight counts of first-degree unlawful access to a computer and eight counts of theft of identity, according to a news release from state police.

Anglin is accused of taking the money from March 2007 through April by accessing the school system's payroll software and using a previous employee's identity.

The Sentinel-News in Shelbyville reported that Anglin resigned April 28. Superintendent James Neihof said the money was taken from the district's budget for substitute teachers, the newspaper said..
