Ngilu appoints 3 directors to housing corporation [Business Daily (Kenya)]

(Business Daily (Kenya) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Land secretary Charity Ngilu has appointed three directors to the National Housing Corporation (NHC) board, less than a month since suspending the State agency's managing director Wachira Njuguna over alleged underperformance.

The minister appointed Purity Mwongeli, Grace Wanyonyi, and David Mboni for a period of three years effective August 8, 2014 through a special gazette notice dated August 12.

It was not immediately clear whether the new appointments have been prompted by the expiry of the incumbents' tenure at the housing firm.

NHC lists seven directors on its website including the chairman Sammy Chepkwony and Henry Maina who stepped in as the managing director after the suspension of Mr Njuguna.

Mr Chepkwony is serving a two-year term that runs until September 2015. Mr Mohammed Ali is on a three-year term lasting up to August 2015. The tenure of the other directors is unclear.

Mr Njuguna's appointment took effect on October 1, 2012 and was to run for a three-year period until September 2015.

Ms Ngilu told a parliamentary committee that she suspended Mr Njuguna for not initiating new projects at NHC, whose performance had declined in the past two years.

Mr Njuguna however denied the allegations. He claimed to have initiated the construction of 2,000 housing units in major towns including Kisumu, Nairobi and Mavoko.
