(IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Kyiv-based Kyivstar telecommunication operator has suspended rendering communication services in Crimea, the company said. Acting in interests of information security of its subscribers, physical security of personnel and integrity of network operation, Kyivstar has to temporarily suspend provision of communication services in Crimea. Kyivstar has also informed the National Commission for the State Regulation of Communications and Informatization (NCSRCI) and expects the NCSRCI to provide instructions as for further actions.

On Aug 5, MTS-Ukraine subscribers in Crimea were left without mobile telephony. The mobile provider without any explanation disabled its network in the occupied peninsula. There is no explanation for what has happened on the MTS official website. At the same time, Russian mobile operator K-Telecom's cellular network in the Crimea region became operational on August 4, daily KyivPost reported, citing Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. The newly-established operator will use spectrum which had been previously utilised by MTS Ukraine.
