Egypt's mobile subscriptions up 0.91% m/m, internet users rise 5.19% m/m in March 2014 [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports](IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The number of mobile subscriptions in Egypt rose 0.91% m/m to 102 million in March 2014, increasing the penetration rate by 0.90% in the month to 120.26% of the country's total population, the monthly bulletin of the communications ministry showed. The total number of internet users grew sharply by 5.19% m/m to 42.16 million with the internet penetration rate climbing up to just below half the population at 49.74%. Internet users' mode of access was distributed amongst mobile internet and USB modem (50%), ADSL (36%), ISDN & Dial-up (7%) and leased line (7%). Fixed telephony subscriptions pushed by the aggressive marketing of incumbent monopoly provider Egypt Telecom increased 2.05% m/m to 6.79 million in March 2014 with the national penetration rate rising to 8.14% from 7.99% the previous month. Fixed-line subscriptions were distributed among residential users - 86% of the total, followed by commercial users accounting for 11% and the government at a distant third with 3% of the total in March.
