SMARTPHONES NOT SMART ENOUGH FOR BUYERS(Indian Business Insight Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sales of high-end handsets are dropping for the first time in India because new devices priced over Rs30,000 offer just incremental innovations. Such incremental innovations are not appealing enough for consumers to upgrade the phones they already have. The launches this year lack the wow factor. According to market tracker CMR India, there is a 29 percent decline in supply of handsets in this category from manufacturers during Jan-Mar 2014 compared with Oct-Dec 2013. Premium handsets account for one- fourth of the smartphone market by value, but their declining sales have lowered growth pace. |
