Reilly, Cast leaving IU Board of Trustees [Herald-Times, Bloomington, Ind. :: ](Herald-Times (Bloomington, IN) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) June 21--When the IU trustees arrive in Bloomington for their August meeting, at least two of the faces will be different. At the close of Friday's meeting in South Bend, board Chairman Tom Reilly announced he and Trustee William Cast would retire from the board when their terms end July 1. Both men have served as IU trustees since 2005 and are in governor-appointed seats. "The university and IU community owe them a lot," said Mark Land, IU spokesman. Cast is a physician, entrepreneur and author from Fort Wayne and earned his medical degree from IU. Reilly is a retired president and CEO of both Reilly Industries and the American Chemistry Council from Indianapolis. Land said the university is looking forward to the new trustee appointments, but he left any comment or announcement beyond that to Gov. Mike Pence's office. Calls to Pence's office went unanswered Friday. Of the nine IU trustees, six -- including one student trustee -- are appointed by the governor and three are elected by IU alumni. All board terms are three years except for the student trustee, who serves a two-year term. Trustee Patrick Shoulders is running for re-election in an alumni-appointed seat against candidate Andrew Baldwin. Voting in that election ends June 30. Student trustee Janice Farlow told the board that a search committee has started to search for her replacement when her term ends a year from now. Several trustees thanked Reilly and Cast as the meeting ended and gave them a standing ovation. Despite their different viewpoints, trustee and board Vice Chairwoman MaryEllen Kiley Bishop said both men were mentors to her. "One thing is for certain, the dedication of the two of you to this board and this university is enormous," she said. Shoulders agreed and said it was an honor to serve with them for the majority of his time on the board. "If I'm not here in August, it will be 12 wonderful years of memories.
