Huvisa Becomes Academy Board Member(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MEMBERS of Parliament (MPs) voted for Special Seats MP Terezya Huvisa and Arumeru West legislator Goodluck ole Medeye who became their representatives to Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy and South African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC-PF), respectively. Dr Huvisa, a seasoned academician, scooped 142 votes against her opponent, Mussa Haji Kombo (Chakechake), who managed 74 votes out of the total 219 votes cast. Three votes were spoilt. Ole-Medeye beat his rival Augustino Masele (Mbogwe-CCM) with 127 votes out of the total 222 cast. Mr Masele, on the other hand, managed 92 votes, with three votes spoilt. While Dr Huvisa fills the vacancy left by retired Faustine Ndugulile (Kigamboni--CCM) from the board of directors, Mr Ole-Medeye replaces Dr Titus Kamani who was promoted to the Ministry of Livestock Development and Fishery portfolio in the last reshuffle. Thanking MPs for the votes, Dr Huvisa promised to work hard to protect the learning institute, which she said has been affected by the climate changes. She also vowed to stand for and advocate for the rights of female students whom she said were the victims of various abuses at campuses. Dr Huvisa, however, said she will promote equal rights to all male and female students at the institute. "There has been escalating humiliation of female and male students at higher learning institutions. As a board member, I will strive to end the vice and create friendly environment for studying," said the MP, boasting of extensive experience in academics. Mr Ole-Medeye promised to promote Kiswahili in the SADCPF meetings, describing the language as a great asset with huge potentials regionally and internationally. Earlier, conversing for votes, Mr Kombo asked MPs who believed in his capacity to deliver to vote for him, saying he was not interested on votes from voters who believed on political ideologies. Mr Masele campaigned for votes, promising to advocate good governance, human rights and proper management of SADC resources. On leadership, he pledged to ensure 50-50 gender equality. Speaker Anne Makinda, announcing the election results, asked those elected to ensure that they always stand for the national interest in their representations. Copyright Tanzania Daily News.
