Infonetics Research: Integrated Security Solutions Gain Share in Network Security Market in 1Q14

CAMPBELL, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Telecom market research firm Infonetics Research released excerpts from its 1st quarter 2014 (1Q14) Network Security Appliances and Software report, which tracks integrated security appliances, secure routers, SSL VPN gateways, VPN and firewall software, and IDS/IPS products.

ANALYST NOTE

"Security solution vendors' long-term success will have a lot to do with how they deliver their core security technology-as standalone product solutions, integrated product solutions, and hosted/SaaS (News - Alert) solutions-and how they tie these together with a common threat cloud, common policy and management interface, and common reporting tools," notes Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics Research. "Security buyers are becoming quite skeptical and quite intelligent. They know that until their security platform shares a common threat, policy, and reporting structure, it will have coverage gaps that can be exploited."

Wilson adds: "Vendors who can flexibly deliver customers the core security technology they need will be insulated from the shifts between standalone and integrated products and on-premise and hosted/SaaS deployments enabled by software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV)."

NETWORK SECURITY MARKET HIGHLIGHTS

  • After a strong finish in 2013, the global network security appliance and software market hit a fairly typical skid in 1Q14, down 12% sequentially, to $1.54 billion
