BRIEF: SAD 17 budget vote is Tuesday [Sun Journal, Lewiston, Maine :: ]

(Sun Journal (Lewiston, ME) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) June 09--OXFORD -- Voters in SAD 17 will go to the polls Tuesday to approve a $37.65 million budget for fiscal year 2014-15.

Referendum ballots will be cast June 10 at polling stations in Paris, Hebron, Norway, Oxford, Otisfield, Harrison, Waterford and West Paris.

On Thursday, about 50 voters approved the budget laid out in 17 warrant articles. The spending plan reflects an average 3.99 percent increase in local assessments.

According to state law, the validation referendum must follow the district meeting within 14 calendar days. If the budget doesn't pass at referendum, the last budget approved by the legislative body becomes the operational budget until voters approve one.

"We are encouraging community members to go to the polls and vote any which way they choose. We just want to get them out to vote," Superintendent Rick Colpitts told the board of directors last week.
