Researchers Share Results of Their Qatar National Research Fund Projects [Qatar News Agency]

(Qatar News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Doha, June 07 (QNA) - Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) hosted the third in the series of Qatar Foundation Research & Development (QF R&D) Research Outcomes Seminars (ROS), which highlighted innovative research projects in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

The ROS are a QF R&D initiative designed to provide researchers with a public platform to share the results of their QNRF-funded cutting-edge research projects.

Sharing his thoughts on the event, QNRF Executive Director Dr Abdul Sattar Al-Taie said: "Through ROS we want to spread knowledge about the excellent research taking place in Qatar and demonstrate to stakeholders from various sectors and the public at large how research funded by QNRF will benefit communities in Qatar and globally." Dr Ali Jaoua, Professor from the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Qatar University, presented his innovative text mining platform, comprising a set of tools designed to extract and analyse information pertaining to online financial data in Arabic and English and adaptable to several other languages. Decision-makers can then be alerted to any newsworthy developments that are identified.

Dr Amr Mohamed, Assistant Professor from the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Qatar University , spoke about his team's development of energy-efficient wireless body sensor networks. These wireless computing systems based on wearable sensors can be adapted for use in healthcare and biomedical research.

The Program Manager for ICT at QNRF, Dr Munir Tag, said: "The projects presented today demonstrate Qatar's capability to produce high calibre ICT research. With continued hard work, I expect many more projects to deliver remarkable results across ICT and other research areas." Driven by the aim of fostering a culture of research in Qatar, Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) was established in 2006 to advance knowledge and education by acting as a support system for researchers. It is a centre within the Research & Development establishment at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. (QNA) (c) 2014 Qatar News Agency . All Rights Reserved.
