Sand 9 Wins 2014 SBANE New England Innovation Award

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

Sand 9, Inc. today announced that it has been awarded SBANE's 2014 New England Innovation Award. The Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE), sponsor of the New England Innovation Awards since its inception in 1986, selected Sand 9 as a winner from among 210 innovative organizations that competed in the final phase of the competition.

Sand 9 is a leading provider of piezoelectric MEMS timing products that can be co-packaged with semiconductor ICs to bring a new level of performance, integration, and quality to customers. With 100 times better electromechanical coupling than electrostatic MEMS, and 15 times better stability over temperature, Sand 9 products achieve significantly better performance at the low power and small size required for mobile, GPS/GNSS, and IoT applications, while also meeting the high-performance, high-frequency requirements for communications infrastructure applications.

"It is a privilege to have been selected as a winner of the 2014 SBANE New England Innovation Award," said Alan Mond, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Sand 9. "Sand 9's innovative piezoelectric MEMS technology is pised to disrupt quartz-a nearly century-old technology that provides the heartbeat for all electronics devices in the world today-and deliver new levels of quality and performance to the market."

Innovation is at the heart of economic prosperity, and SBANE continues to recognize those companies and organizations that have transformed their innovative ideas into a product or service that delivers proven value to customers. Former winners come from varying fields such as technology, manufacturing, service (both for-profit and not-for-profit), and retail/distribution. Winners include such notable companies as Staples (News - Alert), PictureTel, Ben & Jerry's, Brooks Automation, Direct Tire, Genzyme, Nantucket Nectars, Imagitas!, Aurora Imaging Technology, and iRobot.

Winners and finalists of this prestigious award were honored at the "Evening of Innovation" Gala Dinner on May 7, 2014 at the Westin Hotel in Waltham, MA. The keynote speaker was Andy Miller, chief innovation architect, Constant Contact (News - Alert).
