Anthology scoops up 11 top-tier Pele awards [The Honolulu Star-Advertiser :: ]


(Honolulu Star-Advertiser (HI) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) April 27--Anthology Marketing Group won 11 gold-level awards at the annual American Advertising Federation, District 13 Pele Awards.

No other large agencies in Honolulu scored double-digit gold wins, leaving room for lesser-known, boutique and sole-operator design and marketing agencies to shine at the top level. Dozens more silver- and bronze-level awards also were presented during the annual gala Saturday night at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.



Making the wins extra-sweet for Anthology was that their "Seafood" TV commercial for HEMIC was named Best of Show in the Advertising category, and its "Sushi Poster" for Shokudo Japanese Restaurant was singled out for an additional special judge's award.

The Best of Show Award for Design was presented to "Go Fish," by HANA HOU! magazine for Hawaiian Airlines. Photography for the piece, submitted in the Elements of Advertising, was credited to Monte Costa.


Photographer Dana Edmunds got credit for "Beauty & the Board," also submitted in the Elements of Advertising category, which won another Pele Award for HANA HOU! as well as a special judge's award.

Another Pele and the third special judge's award was presented to Core Group One for its "Pup" TV commercial for SlumberWorld.

The industry also honors individuals at its annual gala. This year's Advertising Man of the Year was James Sereno, owner and director at Kinetic Productions.

Barbara Ankersmit, president of QMark Research, was 2014 Advertising Woman of the Year.

Bill Gaeth, recently retired general sales manager at KITV, was named 2014 Media Person of the Year, while Neon Republic President Vanessa Katz Zachariah was named 2014 Outstanding Young Advertising Person of the Year.

An American Advertising Federation Silver Medal was presented to Helene "Sam" Shenkus, director of marketing for The Festival Cos., which handles marketing for the Royal Hawaiian Center, while the 2014 Extra Mile Award was presented to stylist Debbie Nishimoto.

Gold-level Pele Award-winning-entries are automatically entered into the American Advertising Federation's national ADDY awards competition, while silver-level winners can pay for entry to the nationals.
