Voice-enabled ATMs for the visually impaired(Daily Messenger (Pakistan) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) To facilitate people with visual impairments, a Pakistani technology firm has come up with a novel solution to help such individuals make transactions using automated teller machines (ATM). Called VIP CASH, the service requires the user to insert an audio jack into the ATM to listen to the voiceover for each and every action. To keep the system simple, the firm TPS has limited the features to only cash withdrawal and balance inquiry. The new system has already been implemented at branches of the Standard Chartered Bank while other banks are expected to embrace the technology as well. With over 2 million visually impaired in Pakistan and half of them living in urban areas, the initiative is a welcome move. |
