OIF Takes Transport SDN Workshop on the Road

FREMONT, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

The Optical Internetworking Forum's (OIF (News - Alert)) effort to shape the direction of Transport SDN takes a European turn when the organization conducts a workshop in Berlin next month. The workshop, "Transport SDN - Enabling Technologies, Demonstrators, Field Trials, Deployments" is open to the public and will be held on Monday May 19 at Maritim proArte Hotel, Friedrichstra├če 151. The workshop will bring together some of the industry's leading carrier and vendor thought-leaders to share ideas on specifications and standardization efforts for SDN / NFV Implementations. The series of Transport SDN workshops kicked off in San Jose, CA (News - Alert) in February.

"As SDN moves along the curve from curiosity to hype and then into reality, carriers and vendors need to cut through the hype and identify what is needed to make Transport SDN a desirable and deployable technology," said Hans-Martin Foisel, of Deutsche Telekom and the OIF Carrier Working Group chair and workshop organizer. "Especially needed are views from across the industry of what the enabling technologies and standards will be and what the practical use cases and applications are for Transport SDN."

Speakers will cover specifications and standardization efforts with representatives from the ONF, OGF/NSI, ETSI/NFV and the OIF. The workshop will also cover the implementation of SDN/NFV with speakers discussing demonstrations, field trials and deployments.

Carrier speakers include OIF president, Vishnu Shukla of Verizon (News - Alert), Joachim Westphal of Deutsche Telekom and Thierry Marcot of Orange. Forum speakers include Lyndon Ong of Ciena and the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), Jonathan Sadler of Coriant and the OIF, Guy Roberts of DANTE and the Open Grid Forum (OGF/NSI) and Evelyne Roch of Huawei (News - Alert) and the ETSI Network Functions Virtualisation Industry Specification Group (ETSI NFV ISG). Vendor speakers include Joerg Elbers of ADVA Optical Networking, Diego Caviglia of Ericsson and Robert Bryttegard of Infinera (News - Alert).

The workshop is open to the public and will run from 1:00pm - 6:00pm, followed by a reception for workshop speakers and participants from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
