BRIEF: Palmerton boy, 13, used Internet to threaten other students, police say [The Morning Call (Allentown, Pa.) :: ]

(Morning Call (Allentown, PA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) April 13--Carbon County authorities are considering charges against a 13-year-old Palmerton boy who used the Oovoo and Instagram online sites to threaten boys and girls at two schools, police said.

The boy, who was not named by police, threatened bodily harm against sixth-grade students at Towamensing and Franklin elementary schools from March 23 through April 9, state police at Lehighton said.

As his victims tried to avoid his harassment, the boy repeatedly changed his screen names and created new email accounts to reach them, police said.

Police on April 4 obtained a court order allowing them to obtain from Oovoo and Facebook the IP address of the computer used by the harasser, police said.

On Monday, police talked with the boy, who police say confessed to the allegations.

State police said charges are awaiting the approval of the county district attorney's office.
