(Oman News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Muscat, Apr 6 (ONA) --- The COMEX 2014 exhibition will feature a comprehensive presence from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). At the exhibition, NCSI will unveil an all new smartphone App called GIS (Geographic Information System), which contains interactive digital maps and satellite imagery that allow users to access population figures and building and establishment information within the Sultanate, with pinpoint geographical accuracy.     The free to download GIS smartphone app by NCSI provides access to various statistical options related to population density and demographic profiles, and is designed in an approachable map format to illustrate the demographic landscape and population distribution in every wilayat and governorate across the Sultanate.      Additionally, the in-app buildings and establishment option gives users access to information about the location of various public and service establishments like hospitals, schools, health centres and police stations, etc.     Commenting on the increasing popularity of the COMEX exhibition, Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah al-Barwani, CEO of NCSI said, "COMEX is one of the most important IT events of the year not just in the Sultanate, but also in the region and plays host to a large number of government and private sector companies. This is why we chose COMEX 2014 to launch our new GIS smartphone App".     "The exhibition provides us with the perfect venue to showcase our products to leading companies in the sector, as well as the general public and helps us increase their awareness of NCSI's role as the official provider of statistics and information in the Sultanate. We strongly believe in technological innovation and are putting our best efforts into improving our digital media channels. As part of this effort, we have redesigned our website and, aside from TV and radio, we have also stepped into the social media arena; having opened pages platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. In addition to the GIS app we will launch at COMEX, we have also designed and launched eight other smartphone Apps that provide users with various statistical information about the Sultanate and allows them to stay connected to NCSI through their smartphones and tablets. We would like to invite everyone to visit our stand at COMEX 2014".     It is worth mentioning that the COMEX 2014 exhibition will be opened at Oman International Exhibition Centre tomorrow (Monday) that will showcase the latest in technology and technological developments in the Sultanate, as well as hosting the highly regarded COMEX Conference.--- Ends/KH (c) 2014 (C) .
