(Canadian Press Broadcast Wire (Canada) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) (Malaysia-Plane) Malaysian media are quoting the country's police chief as saying authorities have identified one of the two men who boarded a Malaysia Airlines jetliner with stolen passports.

Malaysia's civil aviation chief is not confirming the report, only saying the two men were of ``non-Asian'' appearance.

The plane vanished without a trace Saturday with 239 people on board -- including two Canadians -- during a flight from Kuala Lumpur and Beijing. (15) (HKN-Hockey-Night-Stroumboulopoulos) (Audio: 111) George Stroumboulopoulos says his new job has been 20 years in the making.

The former C-B-C talk show host -- who started his career as a reporter at Toronto sports radio station The Fan 590 -- is the new host of ``Hockey Night in Canada.'' It's Rogers' first major personnel change since the telecommunications company acquired the N-H-L rights in 12-year, multi-billion-dollar deal in November.

The popular Saturday night segment ``Coach's Corner'' will continue to be hosted by Ron MacLean and Don Cherry. (15) (Skicross-Fatality-Settlement) (Audio: 118) The International Ski Federation has acknowledged that a Canadian skicross racer who was killed at a World Cup event two years ago was not responsible for his own death.

The family of Nik Zoricic says they are vindicated, and feel Zoricic's legacy has become something positive and to be celebrated.

The incident prompted the federation to make safety improvements to course design and has pledged 250-thousand dollars over five years to the Nik Zoricic Foundation, which aims to improve skicross safety. (15) (Stealing-Mom) A 34-year-old woman in central Ontario is facing several charges after allegedly using her eight-year-old child to shoplift.

Police in Barrie say the woman distracted store staff so the child could push a shopping cart filled with 15-hundred dollars worth of power tools to a waiting taxi.

The woman was arrested at the scene, and the child was sent home in the cab.

Police allege the suspect committed a similar theft at another store in the area. (15) (US-Obama-China) (Audio: 120) The Obama administration is trying to get China's support for efforts to isolate Russia over its military intervention in Ukraine.

The White House says President Barack Obama spoke to China's president last night -- their first known conversation since Russia took control of Ukraine's Crimea region.

A statement says Obama appealed to China's well-known opposition to outside intervention in the affairs of other nations. (15) (Parenting-And-Smartphones) (Audio: 65) A new study suggests a child's behaviour may be connected to how much time their guardian spends on their smartphone.

Researchers in Boston watching families in some Boston-area fast food restaurants found more than 70 per cent of the parents were using their phones while with their kids.

The study says some children behaved badly when the caregiver's attention was focused on the phone and not them. (15) (NewsWatch by Lori Paris) (The Canadian Press) (c) 2014 The Canadian Press
