Gov. Perry Appoints Three to Office of Small Business Assistance Advisory Task Force


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 7 -- Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, announced the following appointment: Gov. Rick Perry has appointed three members to the Office of Small Business Assistance Advisory Task Force for terms to expire June 14, 2015. Pursuant to House Bill 3714, the task force advises and assists the Office of Small Business Assistance, governor, lieutenant governor and speaker with issues that relate to small businesses, and provides information in plain language to the public on issues related to small businesses.



James Broaddus of Austin is a registered professional engineer and CEO of the Broaddus Companies. He is former founding CEO of the Design-Build Institute of America and former senior facilities officer for the University of Texas (UT) System. He is a member of the UT Academy of Distinguished Alumni in Civil Engineering and UT System Chancellor's Council Executive Committee, a former appointee of President George W. Bush and past chairman of the National Institute of Building Sciences. He is also a volunteer and past president of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Austin. He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps and Seabees. Broaddus received a bachelor's degree, a master's degree in civil engineering and a Doctorate of Civil Engineering and Project Management from the University of Texas at Austin.

Robert McKinley of San Antonio is associate vice president of economic development for the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is a member of the U.S.-Mexico Entrepreneurship and Innovation Council and San Antonio Economic Development Foundation Strategic Task Force, and a board member of the Associacion de Empresarios Mexicanos. He is also past national board chairman of America's Small Business Development Centers, past chairman of the City of San Antonio Small Business Advisory Committee and a past board member of the Texas Business Incubation Association. McKinley received a bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio.


Will Newton of Austin is executive director of the Texas Chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business. He is a former legislative liaison for the Office of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and former director of governmental affairs for the Texas Restaurant Association. He is also a volunteer scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 454 and past volunteer coach for Austin I-9 Flag Football and Upward Sports Youth Programs. Newton received a bachelor's degree from St. Edward's University.
