Optofluidics' Nanoparticle Analyzer, a Finalist the "Oscars of Photonics"

PHILADELPHIA --(Business Wire)--

Philadelphia-based startup Optofluidics is proud to announce that their flagship product, the "NanoTweezer", is a finalist for a PRISM Award. Known as the "Oscars of Photonics" the PRISM Awards is an international competition recognizing cutting-edge products that break conventional ideas and solve problems through photonics. The PRISM Awards gala will take place during SPIE's Photonic West on February 5th of 2014. "We're thrilled to be recognized at this prestigious event," said President and CTO Robert Hart. "Nanoparticle manufacturing has surged in the past decade. The NanoTweezer is our attempt to bring particle analysis capabilities up to par with latest manufacturing techniques. Frankly I think heads are starting to turn our way."

The NanoTweezer is a novel plug-and-play attachment to standard microscopes that captures, manipulates, and analyzes individual nanoscale objects in high numbers including proteins aggregates, viruses, bacteria, and inorganic nanoparticles. It uses proprietary nanophotonic waveguide technology to measure the most important properties of nanoparticles including size, shape and coating quality.

Optofluidics was named Philadelphia Life Science Startup of the Year of 2012, and is backed by venture partners BioAdvance, the National Science Foundation and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Optofluidics launched its first particle analysis instrument in 2014. For more information on Optofluidics, please visit www.opfluid.com.
