ABMS Appoints Rich Waters as New VP, Marketing and Communications


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CHICAGO, Jan. 27 -- The American Board of Medical Specialties issued the following news release: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), a leading organization that oversees physician Board Certification in the United States, has appointed Rich Waters, MBA, CAE, as the organization's new Vice President of Marketing and Communications.



Waters brings 25 years of marketing and communications experience to ABMS from a variety of industries, including health care. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Marketing at the American College of Chest Physicians. Previously, Waters held executive marketing positions at Deloitte & Touche Tax Technologies, Sterling Commerce, and A.C. Nielsen.

In this newly created position, Waters will lead the development and implementation of ABMS's strategic communications initiatives. In addition, he will manage the organization's varied and integrated marketing and communications products and services.


"As a member of the senior leadership team, Rich will play an integral role in providing strategic leadership for our communication initiatives as the organization embarks on the implementation of the newly approved standards for the ABMS Program for Maintenance of Certification," said Lois Margaret Nora, MD, JD, MBA, ABMS President and Chief Executive Officer. Waters joins ABMS's operational team which serves ABMS and its 24 Member Boards headed by Chief Operating Officer, Laura Skarnulis. "Rich's extensive medical community and leadership experience will be valuable assets to ABMS as we build our foundation to further advance our mission of improving patient care by establishing high educational and professional standards for physician specialists," said Ms. Skarnulis.

Waters holds a bachelor's degree from Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia and a master's degree of business administration from Northwestern University, Kellogg Graduate School of Management, in Evanston, Ill. He is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and a resident of Arlington Heights, Ill.
