RALEIGH, N.C. and MEMPHIS, Tenn., Oct. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Elster Solutions today announced that Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) has selected the EnergyAxis Advanced Metering Infrastructure and EIServer Meter Data Management systems from Elster Solutions for the first phase of their smart meter deployment. The first phase encompasses approximately 60,000 electric, gas and water endpoints and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

EnergyAxis enables meter data collection, analysis, reporting, and network management for all three services using a single head-end system. This simplifies system management, and reduces the total cost of ownership. Memphis will be one of the first utilities to enjoy the advantages of Elster's new grid performance system including the ease of use and convenient task management enabled by the CallistoUX (User Experience) engine and the cost-effective ability to grow system capabilities with stackable answers from Elster and its partners.

Technology and services partners will join Elster to deliver additional advantages to MLGW and its customers.

-- Exceleron 's stackable prepayment solution will enable MLGW to waive deposits and other fees for prepaid customers and provide consumer options to better control utility usage and costs.

-- The ABB Tropos stackable wide area network will provide reliable communications for meter data collection, and also offers capacity for other high value utility functionality and community benefits such as outage management and mobile workforce management.

-- Apex CoVantage will provide network infrastructure installation while the utility plans to have existing MLGW employees install the 60,000 Phase I smart meters.

-- Shelby Packaging & Logistics (SP&L) will provide long haul trucking from Elster's manufacturing facilities delivering to various locations in Shelby County identified by MLGW. SP&L is an active member of the Mid-South Minority Business Council Continuum and other industry associations.

"Elster is proud to be selected for this landmark project in the Tennessee Valley. We are looking forward to growing our partnership with MLGW and providing the safe, secure and reliable technology to better serve the needs of its customers and the greater Memphis community," said Mike Caranfa, Vice President Sales Operations and General Manager of the US East and West Sales Regions, Elster Solutions.
