Tim Gabel to Join Board of Directors for the North Carolina Military Foundation

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Sept. 23 -- RTI International issued the following news release: Tim Gabel, executive vice president of Social, Statistical and Environmental Sciences at RTI International, will represent RTI on the executive board of directors for the North Carolina Military Foundation.

The North Carolina Military Foundation ( is a private, nonprofit, economic development group focused on growing North Carolina's defense and homeland security economy in a way that generates new long-term investment and job opportunities.

"We are very excited to have Tim join our executive board of directors," said Lance DeSpain, executive director of the North Carolina Military Foundation said. "Our organizations have a long history of collaboration and we look forward to strengthening our working relationships on every level." RTI and the North Carolina Military Foundation previously worked together in creating the Institute for Homeland Security Solutions ( (IHSS), a research consortium led by RTI and Duke University.

I look forward to working with the foundation to help grow North Carolina's economy." Gabel oversees RTI's largest business unit, which has annual revenue of about $385 million and more than 1,400 staff members who conduct a variety of research, development and technical assistance projects in multiple domains.

The Social, Statistical and Environmental Sciences ( unit is responsible for designing and conducting complex national surveys and economic, statistical, epidemiological and social policy research for government agencies, foundations and commercial clients across the areas of health, environment, education and justice Gabel joined RTI in 1983 serving as vice president of the Survey and Computing Sciences Unit from 2005 to 2012. Prior to that, he was director of the Research Computing Division and served in several management and technical roles within the Social, Statistical and Environmental Sciences group.

Gabel holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University, and a bachelor's in statistics from the University of Wyoming.

Founded in 2006, the foundation designs and executes initiatives that highlight North Carolina's areas of competitive advantage and meet the emerging needs of our nation's military. Notable recent successes include establishing NC's first unmanned aerial systems test site, connecting NC Motorsports Alliance with the US Special Operations Command, and bringing the new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter to Cherry Point.
