Dovado Boosts Performance of 4G Hotspots (Mi-Fi)

Sep 16, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Dubai Internet City, UAE / Kista, Sweden - - Dovado, the supplier of mobile broadband routers and software to 4G/LTE and 3G operators and distributors, today announced that it has added support for a new category of data connectivity device to its award-winning routers; 4G pocket mobile (WiFi) hotspots (often referred to as Mi-Fi). Owners are now able to connect 4G mobile hotspots from leading vendors such as Huawei, ZTE and Sierra Wireless to any Dovado router allowing them to share a faster connection with more people, over a greater distance.

In recent months there has been an explosion in the number of 4G mobile WiFi hotspots devices (quite often referred to as Mi-Fi) on the market, and while their convenience and utility is not in question, they do come with certain inherent limitations. The WiFi range is often limited, covering perhaps just one room as opposed to an entire average-sized house or place of business. Likewise, the maximum number of devices which can connect to the router are often limited to between 5-10 connections and lack Ethernet ports for wired devices. This, combined with a limited range, can lead to a huddling of users. The greatest drawback, however, is that maximum throughput is strangled by design in order to maximize on portability and battery life: often restricted to no more than 25-30Mbps.

Mobile hotspots connect to Dovado routers via USB cable, alleviating limitations and delivering a truly high performance 4G experience. One way to improve throughput would be to place the mobile hotspot by the window (for best speed and signal) while the Dovado router is situated on a spot best suited for Ethernet & electrical wiring. Not only is coverage boosted but so is throughput (with speeds in excess of 100Mbps), unlocking the full potential of 4G. By connecting all the clients to the Dovado router, the number of simultaneous WiFi connections is increased to 32 and users can also take advantage of the Gigabit Ethernet ports that are included in the Dovado Pro router model. As a bonus of having the mobile hotspot connected via USB cable to the Dovado router, its battery will remain fully charged, making sure owners can switch to mobile use without delay.

"4G mobile hotspots alone are great for outdoor use, yet with the assistance of our innovative routers, they can achieve their full potential in indoor settings" said Erik Arthur, CEO of Dovado. "By connecting the mobile hotspot to a Dovado router, customers are able to access a truly amplified experience of their existing 4G mobile Internet thanks to greater WiFi coverage, Ethernet access and significantly higher speeds." The firmware 7.1 update will allow the full range of Dovado routers - PRO, GO, DOMA and TINY - to support 4G mobile hotspots from Huawei, Sierra Wireless and ZTE. This includes numerous Category 4 (150Mbps) devices available from leading operators such as EE in the UK.
