Landis+Gyr Expands Gridstream Solution Portfolio with 2-Way Water Metering Solution

Jan 23, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Landis+Gyr announced the availability of a two-way water metering solution to utilities through the Gridstream platform.

According to a release, the addition of two-way communications for water metering applications allows utilities to leverage the full potential and scalability of the Gridstream network platform, while avoiding costly infrastructure add-ons. The truly two-way device enables near real-time access to critical water assets for visibility into current meter status empowering utilities to address customer concerns and support advanced capabilities such as leak detection, reverse flow and tampering. By offering Gridstream network coverage across electric, gas and now water endpoints, utilities realize system-wide command and control and single network management.

"Using the latest technology and feature sets, the solution supports most vendors' residential and commercial water metering products and maximizes operational efficiencies," says Randy Edwards, Group Product Manager at Landis+Gyr. He adds, "The easily retrofitted device leverages existing installed meters a key factor as we strive to provide low cost of ownership solutions and meet ever-evolving industry requirements quickly and efficiently." Available options include a 3-wire retrofit solution for existing pit and wall-mount AMR installations, as well as an integrated register and communications module for new AMI installations. All deliver an integrated, proactive and interoperable solution, furthering the Landis+Gyr commitment to next-generation water measurement for the smart grid.

Tim Weidenbach, Vice President of Product Management at Landis+Gyr, stresses, "We've supported water utility customers over fixed networks for years. Extending Gridstream's proven benefits to water metering was the next logical step in meeting multi-utility needs. We are excited to bring this comprehensive solution to market and, ultimately, help utilities serve their customers better." Interested utilities can experience the new water solution in action at DistribuTECH 2013 (January 29-31), by visiting Landis+Gyr in booth 2315.
