Optus, Vodafone lag behind Telstra on emergency alerts


Jan 03, 2013 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Since 23 November 2012, mobile telephone subscribers of Telstra can receive emergency warnings based on satellite technology, in case of floods, bushfires or similar disasters. However, the about 42% of consumers in Victoria who are with rival network operators Singtel Optus and Vodafone will not have access to the same text messages service until November and December 2013 respectively. The state is expecting severe to extreme fire danger on the weekend of 5-6 January 2013, due to a heatwave.
