Adobe cements local focus [Bangkok Post, Thailand]

(Bangkok Post (Thailand) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Nov. 20--The Asean Economic Community will be a boon for document management software as it can help promote higher cross-border transactions in the region, says a software developer.

The software can help companies keep their documents secure, said Vicky Skipp, Southeast Asia regional director of Adobe System Incorporated, a global maker of creative design tools and document management software. Its products include Acrobat, Photoshop Elements and Flash.

International Data Corporation (IDC) research in September reported large organisations could lose up to US$15 million a year if they keep using substandard electronic document solutions. Substandard software takes time to load files and has frequent failures in obtaining and sending messages, which could waste up to six hours per week, the study noted.

This costs US$19,732 per worker per year and a cost loss of 21.3% in organisational productivity.

By eliminating wasted time related to document creation and management, a company can save the cost equivalent of employing 98 new workers in a 1,000-person company, according to the study.

Besides improving internal operations, she said Thai businesses should focus on standardising their business data because it will increase the confidence of overseas customers.

"Having a document security policy is a key element in attracting new customers to Thailand, apart from product quality and a skilled workforce," said Ms Skipp.

The local document management software market is expected to double in size next year following corporate demand for higher employee productivity, especially for the mobile workforce.

Adobe System introduced Acrobat XI, its new PDF software that allows collaborators to fully edit PDF files and export them to Microsoft Office's PowerPoint presentation programme. It also supports mobile changes, including monitoring for data leaks in document files.
