Local roundup: Inman, Barrett earn first team honors

BLUEFIELD, Nov 14, 2012 (Bluefield Daily Telegraph - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Princeton senior soccer standout Jessica Inman joined Amanda Barrett as an All-Mountain State Athletic Conference first team honoree. Inman was also the defender of the year and a first team All-Class AAA selection by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. Barrett had 22 goals and 15 assists for the Tigers this season.

MSAC Coach of the Year honors went to Michelle Dye, who led the Tigers to the regional finals for a second straight season. Others awards: Second Team All-MSAC: Shaylah Walls (22 goals, 10 assists), Laken Autrey. Special honorable mention: Victoria Billips. Honorable mention: Ashley Culicerto...Princeton boys: Special honorable mention: Perry Stafford.Honorable mention: William Hickman.

Justin Freund is one of four Bluefield boys soccer players who were chosen as first team honorees to the All-Coalfield Conference team. Freund, above, John Brown, Jalen Masterson and Justin Phillips were joined on the first team by Alex Testerman and Jason Weitzel from PikeView. Bluefield reached the state tournament for the first time in school history.

PikeView -- Alex Testerman, Jason Weitzel. Pocahontas County -- Parker White, Tyler Davis, James Coy. Nicholas County -- Andrew Ray, Jessee Borrell. Midland Trail -- Tyler Skaggs, Jose Hunter.

Second Team Bluefield -- Matt Sabo, Brandon Eldridge, Jose Tarin, Chavess Burress. Pocahontas County -- Garrett McCurdy, Alex Kennison, Stephen Simmons. PikeView -- Quinton Brown, Isaac Van Blaricom. Nicholas County -- Ethan Miller, Jake Tyler. Midland Trail -- Brandon Belcher, Danny Hunter.

Honorable Mention Bluefield -- Nick Delida, Mike Music. PikeView -- Vaughn Campell, Seth Wood, Brandon Calfee. Midland Trail -- Dallas Lesher, Nicholas Brower.

Concord University volleyball standout Sarah Jones has earned second team All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors. Jones, a sophomore middle hitter, helped guide Concord (15-19) to its second consecutive 15-win season as well as a berth into the WVIAC Tournament. Jones had 367 kills, 248 digs, 92 blocks and 26 aces.

After not catching a pass all season, Richlands product Austin Fuller snared seven receptions for 59 yards in Southern Methodist's 34-6 win over Southern Mississippi last Saturday. Fuller, who transferred to SMU from Virginia Tech, has played all 10 games for the 5-5 Mustangs.
