Alterna'TV Acquires Exclusive Broadcast Rights to Womens' Basketball's Torneo Las Americas U18


MIAMI, Aug 14, 2012 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) -- Alterna'TV, a subsidiary of Latin America's leading satellite service provider Satelites Mexicanos S.A de C.V. (SATMEX), in association with Latin American Sport (LAS), has acquired exclusive broadcasting rights for Womens' Basketball's Torneo Las Americas U18 (Championship FIBA Americas 2012) in Puerto Rico. The acquisition is part of Alterna'TV's new business development strategy which has the company acquiring sporting events and other forms of programming in an effort to strengthen the programming offer of the channels it distributes.



The Torneo Las Americas U18 takes place August 15 to 19 at Puerto Rico's Coliseo Fernando "Rube" Hernández de Gurabo. National teams from United States, Canada, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil and Puerto Rico will compete for the four available spots in the U19 World Cup, which takes place in Lithuania July 18-28, 2013.

The first game of the Torneo Las Americas U18 is the Dominican Republic vs. the USA and kicks off at 1:30p.m. ET on Wednesday August 15. Three other games will be played that same day -- Argentina vs Colombia at 3:45p.m. ET; Canada vs. Brazil at 6p.m. ET; and Puerto Rico vs Mexico at 8:30p.m. ET. The Puerto Rican team will play Canada, Mexico and Brazil in the first round of play.


All the games of the tournament will air on Latin American Sports. In Puerto Rico, LAS is found on channel 856 on the DISH satellite service, and in the tri-state area of the U.S., LAS is carried on Cablevision's channel 1069.

FIBA Americas (Basketball Panamerican Confederation), is a non-profit organization that represents the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) on the American continent, with jurisdiction from Canada to Argentina.
