BRIEF: 38 Studios' woes bring Avalanche to hold video-game job fair in Providence

May 24, 2012 (The Providence Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Another video-game company, attracted by the talent at troubled 38 Studios, is holding a job recruitment event Thursday from noon to 7 p.m. at the Westin Providence Hotel.

"We're here to help out people in a bad situation . . . and help out our own company at the same time," said Avalanche Studios General Manager David Grijns. He said Avalanche is looking to hire between 40 and 50 new employees.

By 2 p.m., Grijns said, Avalanche staffers had seen about 50 people. Grijns would not say if any of them were from 38 Studios.

"Typically, we'll go to places where there are layoffs," Grijns said. "Our industry is very specialized. It's not easy to find talent." ___ (c)2012 The Providence Journal (Providence, R.I.) Visit The Providence Journal (Providence, R.I.) at www.projo.com Distributed by MCT Information Services
