Axxcelera Broadband Selects Freescale Processors to Power Next Generation LTE eNodeB

(Market Wire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SANTA BARBARA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 10/25/11 -- Axxcelera Broadband Wireless, a data networking company, will incorporate highly advanced processors from Freescale Semiconductor to power an innovative range of eNodeBs. Leveraging the industry-leading scalability and field-proven capabilities of Freescale's QorIQ Qonverge™ and StarCore® DSP product portfolios, the Axxcelera eNodeBs can be configured to provide the optimum blend of capacity and performance. These will be part of Axxcelera's broader LTE product range covering all aspects from the EPC to high performance UEs.

"Axxcelera's highly innovative LTE products demonstrate what is possible when outstanding equipment manufacturers intelligently unleash the performance, energy efficiency and scalability of Freescale's industry-leading silicon for wireless networking applications," said Preet Virk, Marketing Director for Freescale's Networking Segment. "Freescale is pleased to supply its latest QorIQ Qonverge and StarCore products to this compelling new line up of products from Axxcelera." The Axxcelera eNodeBs will incorporate one of Freescale's QorIQ Qonverge systems on chip and the six-core MSC8157 digital signal processor (DSP). The QorIQ Qonverge device is a base station-on-chip based on a common architecture. Integrating communications processing, digital signal processing and wireless acceleration technologies into a single device -- integration, that lowers part counts and delivers significant power, cost and footprint reductions for base stations. Freescale's MSC8157 StarCore product includes a combination of fully programmable DSP cores and powerful hardware acceleration to provide best in class performance, power efficiency, connectivity, and cost effectiveness. The MSC8157 delivers the peak throughput possible in 3G-LTE 20 MHz bandwidth, delivering 300 Mbps in the downlink and 150 Mbps in the uplink, with 4x4 DL and 2x4 UL MiMO, as well as various interference cancellation schemes to support hundreds of users.

Jamal Hamdani, president and CEO of Axxcelera, said: "We are delighted to be working with Freescale Semiconductor and having their technology at the heart of our eNodeBs. Their superior performance allows us to develop innovative and cost effective wireless broadband solutions.
