Tekelec Policy Server "Sets the Standard in the Industry" With Five-Star Product Review

MORRISVILLE, NC, Oct 03, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), the mobile broadband solutions company, received an unprecedented five-star rating in the policy and charging rules function (PCRF) product review category from industry analyst firm Current Analysis. Joe McGarvey, principal analyst, IP services infrastructure at Current Analysis, said, "The Tekelec Policy Server sets the standard in the industry against which all other policy controllers will be measured." McGarvey said Tekelec's Policy Server "is at or near the top of the competitive landscape in multiple buying criteria, including performance, deployments (both quantity and industry profile), features, and flexibility, as well as interoperability with third-party policy and charging ecosystem components." The Policy Server gives service providers a way to generate new revenue and to lower their network operating costs with differentiated service offerings, simplified pricing plans and traffic management options. Tekelec's PCRF allows operators to create policies that manage subscribers' access and use of devices, applications and services to direct traffic volumes and speeds, charging, admission control and quality of service (QoS) parameters.

The five-star rating surpasses the scores given to PCRF products from nine other companies, ranging from large equipment vendors to other independent policy providers. Differentiators Current Analysis cited for Tekelec's Policy Server include: -- Product performance: "Tekelec claims the platform is capable of handling 10,000 transactions per second (TPS) on a single blade and 100,000 TPS on a single system, figures that significantly exceed the claims of any other competitor." -- Customer deployments: "The Tekelec Policy Server is deployed in over 50 networks, including several prominent mobile operators, such as Vodafone, Telefonica, and Verizon Wireless' groundbreaking LTE network." The report states that "the Tekelec Policy Server is one of the most prolifically deployed platforms on the market" and the Verizon Wireless LTE deployment "provides Tekelec with a strong reference and validation of the product's suitability for next-generation broadband networks." -- "Market-leading deployment flexibility": the Policy Server is integrated with Tekelec's Subscriber Data Management and SIP- and Diameter-based session management solutions, and has "amassed a market-leading number of interoperability partnerships with adjacent solution providers, such as DPI, GGSN, edge router, content optimization, and online charging system vendors." Current Analysis concluded that, "Operators that deploy the Tekelec Policy Server are likely to have little difficulty integrating the platform into its policy and charging infrastructure." "We design our products to support scalability and flexibility for the world's largest and most innovative service providers," said Doug Suriano, chief technology officer and vice president of engineering at Tekelec. "Policy management must address each customer's unique network topology, subscriber base, geography, pricing models, and provide the path forward for them to increase revenues and manage costs associated with mobile data." The Current Analysis review continues Tekelec's product accolades in 2011. Earlier this year, Analysys Mason named Tekelec the "leading independent software vendor in the policy management segment" for the second consecutive year. Frost & Sullivan also recognized Tekelec's Diameter Signaling Router for the "New Product Innovation Award, Diameter Routing" for its superior ability to help operators overcome Diameter signaling challenges in LTE networks.
