EBD Group and MassBio today announced that Angus Russell, CEO of Shire, will be the keynote speaker at BioPharm America™, being held in Boston at the Westin Waterfront, September 7-9, 2011. With more than 1,000 dealmakers expected, the 2011 edition of BioPharm America promises to be one of the most productive partnering events of the year for the biotech industry.

"Partnering is a central strategy for success in today's biotech industry, and as the industry continues to shift around personalized medicine, establishing the right partnerships is more important than ever," said Russell. "BioPharm America 2011 provides an exceptional opportunity for companies representing the biotech industry value chain to identify new opportunities, and start the conversations that lead to tomorrow's partnerships and acquisitions."

A highly regarded leader in the life science industry, Russell has been CEO of Shire since 2008 and has been a member of the board since 1999. He was the company's CFO from December 1999 to June 2008, and is also the chairman of the company's leadership team. Between 1980 and 1999, he held a number of positions of increasing responsibility at ICI, Zeneca and AstraZeneca PLC, including VP, Corporate Finance at AstraZeneca and Group Treasurer at Zeneca.

"We're honored to have Angus Russell sharing his insights at BioPharm America," said Carola Schropp, President of EBD Group, organizers of the conference. "This year's edition is attracting a notable group of large pharma, innovative development stage companies and leading financiers, and again will turn Boston into the hub of life science dealmaking."

Robert K. Coughlin, President and CEO of the event's host organization, MassBio, added, "More and more, collaboration between pharma, biotech, venture and academia proves to be the model for moving innovation out of the lab and into the market.
