CommScope Introduces A 160 QAM Per Port Wideband Edge Solution To the Cable Industry

HICKORY, N.C. --(Business Wire)--

CommScope, Inc., a global leader in infrastructure solutions for communications networks, will introduce what it believes to be the cable industry's first all-digital, carrier-grade wideband edge QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) solution-the LxS-16016-during The Cable Show this week.

With the introduction of the CommScope LxS-16016 wideband edge QAM, the company is continuing its efforts to expand its product offerings to multi-system operators (MSO). A dense, scalable QAM solution is vital to supporting more of the advanced and next-generation services over HFC (hybrid fiber coax) networks, and enhances CommScope's efforts to provide a complete solutions offering-starting at the head-end and finshing at the home.

"Cost effective, scalable QAM is critical to supporting the applications that are growing in importance, such as video on demand, switched digital video, broadcast video, DOCSIS®, and cable IPTV (News - Alert) on the same physical redundant radio frequency (RF) port," said Shane Eleniak, vice president, Advanced Broadband Solutions, CommScope. "MSOs now have the opportunity to seamlessly add bandwidth as needed in the most cost effective manner. The CommScope LxS-16016 wideband edge QAM introduces our customers to an entirely new era for enabling new service offerings."

The CommScope LxS-16016 wideband edge QAM offers up to 160 QAM channels on each of 16 RF (radio frequency) ports totaling 2560 QAMs in a small, fully redundant 4 RU chassis. This density allows cable operators to have the flexibility of rolling out new services in the future without the need for costly truck rolls or disrupting service. By directly digitizing the entire 1 GHz band, the LxS-16016 wideband edge QAM achieves superior RF and enhanced remote control flexibility.

Additionally, the density of this new solution can help operators reduce capital and operating expenses by significantly lowering power consumption, significant requirements for power, cabling, rack space and cooling.

The Cable Show, hosted by the National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA (News - Alert)), will take place June 14-16, 2011 in Chicago, IL at McCormick Place. CommScope will exhibit at Booth 131.
