Price gap denies wireless win over wired

May 24, 2011 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Market Clarity research has found higher prices and poorer connections mean wireless internet technology will be unable to offer an alternative to the national broadband network in the near future. The telco research company's report discovered the average cost of fixed-line broadband is $A0.30 per gigabyte (GB) of data while contract post-paid mobile access is $A5.27 per GB and pre-paid access is $A16.67 per GB. An Australian Government spokesperson noted wireless is a vital complementary technology but fixed broadband connections need to form the basis of an internet network.
