Silver Spring Networks Expands Landis+Gyr Partnership With Integrated Smart Grid Solution to Modernize Brazil's Energy Infrastructure

SÃO PAULO, Brazil --(Business Wire)--

Silver Spring Networks, a global smart grid solution provider based in the U.S., today announced a partnership to provide an integrated smart grid solution in Brazil with Landis+Gyr, a global leader in energy management and advanced metering technology. Under the agreement, Landis+Gyr will provide E22 and E34 meters and the SGP+M system equipped with Silver Spring Communications Modules. The Silver Spring Smart Energy Platform combines network infrastructure, software and professional services to enable a range of smart grid applications. The combined solution will deliver fully-integrated, end-to-end, IPv6-based communications.

"We are delighted to add Landis+Gyr to our expanding international ecosystem of Smart Energy providers," said Eric Dresselhuys, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Silver Spring. "This partnership builds on our initial investment, expands choice of IP-enabled meters, and sets the foundation for successful relationships with utility companies in Brazil."

The joint solution from Silver Spring and Landis+Gyr underscores the long-term commitment both companies have made to modernize the electricity grid in Brazil. Earlier this year, Silver Spring incorporated in Brazil and opened an office in São Paulo. Additionally, Silver Spring expects to manufacture locally beginning in 2011, which will strengthen ties with Landis+Gyr's products including the SGP+M System which was selected by Brazil in 2009 as the nation's first approved smart meter system.

"Brazil is leading the way for energy management in South America, and we are very pleased to partner with Silver Spring Networks to help local utilities meet the challenges of our growing population and increasing demand for energy," said Álvaro Dias, Jr., CEO of Landis+Gyr South America and Group Executive Vice President. "The Silver Spring's Smart Energy Platform is the best match to complement our portfolio, and, together with our Inmetro-certified advanced metering solution, will help Brazilian utilities provide up-to-date energy information to help our utility customers control their energy use, cut energy costs, reduce environmental impacts and better protect against energy theft."
