Tekelec Wins Light Reading Leading Lights Award for Camiant and Blueslice Networks Acquisitions

MORRISVILLE, NC, Nov 11, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), the broadband data management company, won the Light Reading Leading Lights "Best Deal Maker" 2010 award for its dual acquisitions of Camiant and Blueslice Networks in May 2010. The award is given "to the company that has consistently demonstrated good timing, judgment, and execution in high-profile acquisitions, partnerships, joint-ventures, and other multi-company financial arrangements." The deals accelerated Tekelec's moves into the mobile data market, giving service providers new abilities to manage and monetize the explosive growth in traffic from smartphones and mobile broadband devices. With the Camiant Policy Management technology and Blueslice's Subscriber Data Management solutions, Tekelec better enables service providers to improve subscribers' quality of experience and offer new innovative services.

"Service providers use Tekelec's portfolio to manage their most valuable assets -- network resources, subscribers' identity, customer experience -- to both lower costs and grow revenues," said Frank Plastina, Tekelec's president and chief executive officer. "We are re-defining the network intelligence layer with unique solution synergies, and it's a credit to the original Tekelec, Camiant and Blueslice teams to receive this recognition from such a respected industry organization." Editors from Light Reading selected Tekelec from among several high-profile deals in the past year, including: -- Cisco's acquisition of Starent Networks for approximately $2.9 billion -- The $22.4 billion merger of CenturyLink Inc. and Qwest Communications -- Bharti Airtel's acquisition of Zain Group to form the world's fifth largest mobile operator Tekelec was also a finalist for Best New Product (Mobile) for the Camiant ATCA-based Multimedia Policy Engine (MPE) for 3GPP Release 8 and 9.

"We offer special congratulations to the select group of finalists that our editors felt were exceptional enough to take home one of Light Reading's Leading Lights awards," says Phil Harvey, Editor-in-Chief of Light Reading. "Picking winners from such an extraordinary group was no easy task, but we think our choices show the unique talent and remarkable potential possessed by the companies and individuals building the communications systems, networks, and devices of tomorrow."
