Alvarion deploys 4G WiMax in Cameroon

Nov 10, 2010 (Globes - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Alvarion Ltd. (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) will supply its Mobile WiMAX 4Motion solution to 4G Africa AG in Cameroon. Alvarion did not disclose the size of the contract.

Zurich-based 4G Africa will deploy Cameroon's first 4G network in the port city of Douala and the capital of Yaounde, the country's two largest cities with a total population five million people. The network will provide connectivity to over 10,000 users within the first year.

4G Africa CEO Dov Bar-Gera said, "4G Africa is focused on establishing WiMAX networks in emerging Sub-Saharan countries, such as Cameroon with the overall aim to reduce the digital divide. Leveraging Alvarion's technology and expertise allows us to provide a high-performance quality network, offering valuable broadband services to the residents in this market." Bar-Gera added, "Sub-Saharan Africa is considered to be one of the world's fastest growing economies, yet lacks the proper infrastructure. We recognize the impressive track record Alvarion holds in Africa in regard to providing operators excellent WiMAX solutions and early deployment capabilities." Alvarion's share price fell 5.6 percent on Nasdaq yesterday to $2.53, giving a market cap of $257 million, and fell 1.5 percent by midday on the TASE today to NIS 9.44.
