IPWireless and ST-Ericsson develop IMB demonstration platform

(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) IPWireless, a developer of 3G and 4G wireless broadband and broadcast solutions, said today that it is working with mobile platforms and semiconductors provider ST-Ericsson to offer a pre-integrated and verified Integrated Mobile Broadcast (IMB) solution.

Targeted at 3G device vendors, the solution combines IPWireless' IMB enabling technology with ST-Ericsson's chipset platforms to enable handset vendors to integrate IMB into future mobile devices. It also allows WCDMA USB dongle manufacturers to enhance their existing devices to quickly participate in the emerging global IMB market, IPWireless said.

IMB enables the delivery of broadcast services and storage of popular content on the device for access at a later time, resulting in offloading of data-intensive traffic from operators' existing 3G unicast networks.

IPWireless and ST-Ericsson are currently developing a demonstration platform that can be used by device vendors to initiate IMB development.
