Hubbell Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) Program Wins Progressive Manufacturing Award

CINCINNATI, OH, Apr 09, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Datalliance is pleased to recognize Hubbell Inc., a Datalliance VMI customer, for their recent Progressive Manufacturing 100 (PM100) Award based on the success of Hubbell's Vendor Managed Inventory program. Managing Automation, a Thomas Publishing Company, LLC publication, recently announced the winners of the sixth annual Progressive Manufacturing Awards, including Hubbell. The PM100 awards recognize 100 projects that have achieved distinction in at least one of eight core disciplines defined by Managing Automation Media as critical to business success in the years ahead. Hubbell's VMI program was recognized in the "Customer Mastery" category.

John Riley, Director Electronic Marketing, Hubbell, explained the strategic business value of VMI for Hubbell. "With the world economy evolving at a rapid pace, Hubbell is focused on providing benchmark services such as VMI that add value for Hubbell and our business partners. These services and related technologies must perform today as well as support growth within the evolving business landscape of the future." The following are key excerpts from Hubbell's award nomination: "One of the qualities of Vendor Managed Inventory that makes it a logical business decision is that it mutually benefits both Manufacturers and Distributors. Hubbell sees and appreciates a tightening of the procurement cycle. Various transaction costs are seeing a considerable reduction. Research shows the cost of a manual purchase order in the range of 30 to 55 dollars per transaction where as a VMI purchase order is between 1 to 3 dollars. VMI provides us visibility to true customer demand which allows us to see market nuances." "Our distributor partners -- including some of the largest in the electrical industry such as Alameda, Graybar, Kirby Risk, McNaughton-McKay, Mid-Island, North Coast, OneSource, Revere, Rumsey, Tri State Supply and Werner -- are seeing improved financial performance, improved service levels, a better inventory mix, a reduction in transactions, improved inventory turns, an increase in order fulfillment, less administration time and cost, better line management, and fewer stock-outs" "VMI has strengthened Hubbell's relationships with our customers because we offer a service that allows them to be more productive and save time. With Hubbell's eComm group managing inventory logistics on behalf of our distributors pricing conversations become secondary as we are able to focus on customer service." "Hubbell decided to outsource this program to Datalliance because they are the global leader for providing VMI. It made good business sense based on the fact that VMI is Datalliance's core business and we know we have their focus. Datalliance offers pre-established connectivity to our distributor partners and we believe they have the best and most efficient service."
