GlaxoSmithKline Received FDA Approval For Vaccine Hiberix (GSK)

Aug 20, 2009 (SmarTrend(R) News Watch via COMTEX) -- 8/20/2009 - GlaxoSmithKline PLC (NYSE:GSK) announced Thursday it received FDA approval for its vaccine Hiberix, a booster shot that helps to prevent Haemophilus, a bacterial infection that can cause meningitis. The company said that Hiberix was approved as a booster dose for children 15 months to 4 years old and got accelerated approval for it because there was not enough of the vaccine on the market. The vaccine had run short in 2007 after another company stopped making its product and parents were recommended to hold off on getting their children vaccinated if they were not at high risk for contracting Haemophilus. GlaxoSmithKline said that Hiberix will be available in the next several weeks.
