eTelemetry's Locate Maps Virtual Infrastructure to Real Infrastructure

ANNAPOLIS, Md. --(Business Wire)-- eTelemetry, the leader in extracting real-time business information from network activity, today announced that the Virtual Infrastructure Discovery (VID) capability, new in Locate, v. 4.2, leverages Locate's intimate knowledge of the devices on the network, including their MAC address, IP address, and physical location, to report on all virtual machines and host servers operating in the real infrastructure.

Virtualization technology is easy to use and ubiquitous, with virtual machine software and pre-configured system images available to download for free on the Internet. This has made running multiple operating systems on the desktop very easy for users with basic computer skills and created a proliferation of functioning operating systems on the enterprise network. These unmanaged operating systems pose a significant security risk. Using Locate's derived location information and knowledge of virtual machine manufacturers' MAC addresses, the VID report contains the physical location of all virtual machines connected on your network.

To enforce network use policies and compliance, Locate's VID capability leverages its proprietary user contact mapping technology to provide the contact information for the operators of all virtual computers operating on desktops as well as location information for all server based virtual machines. Having the contact information and location of the virtual machine operators makes tracking down these machines as easy as picking up the phone. Locate maps the virtual infrastructure to the real network infrastructure for ongoing identification and remediation of these policy breaches.

"Virtualization technology has resulted in significant cost savings from the reduced data center footprint, making its adoption prevalent on networks of all sizes," commented Ermis Sfakiyanudis, President and CEO of eTelemetry. "Locate's new Virtual Infrastructure Discovery capability continuously catalogues and maps the virtual infrastructure to the physical infrastructure to reduce risk and improve support and network documentation." Release 4.2 of Locate also includes a master console deployment mode that enhances Locate's ability to support very large deployments where numerous remote collection nodes are required and high availability for failed over operation on a redundant appliance.

Locate, v. 4.2, will be featured at Interop, Las Vegas (May 19-21). Visit eTelemetry in booth #469 for a demonstration.
